The shortlist at a glance

Public pricing & docs
We compare each vendor’s public pricing, documentation, and demos against a representative pet business management workflow, rather than ranking from feature lists alone.
Pricing is a snapshot
Pricing reflects each vendor’s public rates at the time of writing and can change by plan, term, add-ons, and promotions. Always confirm current pricing with the vendor.
Operator perspective
We frame every pick around how a pet-care business actually runs, with input from working operators where we have it, and we flag what we could not verify.

Who each one is actually for.
The most operationally complete platform in the category. Capacity logic, package billing, vaccine rules, POS, and reporting that reconciles to your books without manual cleanup.
The cleanest interface in the category, with a polished client web portal. A new shift lead can clear the learning curve in a single shift.
Built by boarding operators. The kennel grid, length-of-stay pricing, and holiday surcharges are the most thought-through anywhere, even where the UI shows its age.
The smallest learning curve in the category, but no longer cheap: the plan starts around $250/mo plus per-staff fees. Data exports cleanly when you outgrow it.
Best-in-class accounting exports and roll-up reporting. The right pick for a group that already has a controller or outside CFO.
Grooming-first management with strong client records and automated reminders. A good fit for businesses where the salon, not the kennel, is the core.
What to look for, whichever you pick.
- 01Capacity logic that varies by day, yard, and dogA Saturday is not a Tuesday and a small-dog yard is not a large-dog yard. If the software treats them the same, you’ll oversell or turn away revenue.
- 02Vaccine checks against the reservation dateMany tools check vaccines against today, not the day the dog is actually in the building. On advance bookings that’s real liability exposure.
- 03Exports your accountant won’t rejectAsk to see a real revenue-by-service and package-liability export before you sign. It’s the first thing that breaks at tax time.
Common questions.
Do I need an all-in-one, or can I stitch tools together?
Under ~25 daily dogs, a booking tool plus a payment processor plus a waiver service is often cheaper and simpler. Past that, the reconciliation overhead of separate systems usually costs more than one subscription.
How long does onboarding take?
Plan two to four weeks of part-time setup for the deeper platforms (Gingr, PetExec) and a few days for the lighter ones (Easy Busy Pets, ProPet).
Will these import my existing data?
Most offer a CSV import for customers and pets. Vaccine documents and historical transactions are harder, ask each vendor for a sample import before you commit.
